Alys North. She/her.

I am an independent dancer, facilitator and maker based in the North East of England. My practice as a dancer is rooted in a love to improvise and play, both by myself and with people.

As a facilitator, dancer and maker, I want to search out and create experiences that invite people to move in ways that are embodied and meaningful, researching live dance as a tool for connection, liberation and transformation.

I collaborate with many different North East based arts and community organisations to design and facilitate participation projects including, Headway Arts, Jack Drum Arts, Changing Relations, The Comfrey Project, Curious Monkey and Helix Arts.

I enjoy performing and training with a diverse range of ‘professional’ and ‘non-professional’ artists, individuals and companies locally, nationally and internationally.

Current performance projects include:

‘When Saturn Returns’ by Alicia Meehan. A colourful, personality-full and rigorous self exploration. The piece is about commitment, and explores our (mine and Alicia’s) real life friendship and the permission it gives us to not commit, contradict, fuck it up and make sense of it all.

Love Dances’ by Adam Russell; ‘In their differences, six artists unite to dance their own love stories’.
